Privacy policy
In effect from
This policy explains what Perland collects when you use Perland Launcher, a Perland account, a server hosted on Perland or this website, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.
Perland is run by PerlandDev. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean PerlandDev.
The short version
- The launcher keeps your Microsoft sign-in on your computer. We never see your Microsoft password or your Microsoft and Minecraft tokens.
- You don't need a Perland account to play. If you make one, we keep what you sign in with and the Perland servers you use.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or put analytics or trackers in the launcher or on this site.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, or for us to delete it, at any time: [email protected].
Perland Launcher
The launcher keeps its data on your computer: your instances, worlds, mods, settings, logs and crash reports. It doesn't upload them anywhere. Logs hide your sign-in tokens.
Signing in with Microsoft. The launcher opens Microsoft's sign-in page in your browser, then talks directly to Microsoft, Xbox Live and Minecraft's services to check that your account owns Minecraft: Java Edition and to read your Minecraft profile (your player name and UUID). Your password only ever goes to Microsoft. To keep you signed in, the launcher stores a Microsoft refresh token in your system's credential store (Windows Credential Manager, or the Secret Service on Linux) and deletes it when you remove the account. None of this is sent to Perland.
The launcher connects only where it needs to for you to play:
- Microsoft, Xbox Live and Minecraft's services, to sign you in and start the game.
- Mojang, for the game's files and Java.
- The mod loaders' servers: Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge.
- Modrinth and CurseForge, for the mods and packs you choose, plus any site that hosts a pack you add by link.
- Perland: the servers behind the invite links you add, Perland's public server list, and your Perland account if you sign in to one.
- GitHub, to check for launcher updates.
Each of these sees your IP address and the launcher's name and version, as any website you visit does, and handles them under its own privacy policy. The launcher has no analytics or telemetry.
Your Perland account
A Perland account is optional. You need one for Your servers, free servers, server news, achievements on Perland servers and managing your servers from the launcher. If you make one, we keep:
- How you sign in. With Discord: your Discord ID, username, display name, avatar and the email address Discord shares. With email: your email address. With GitHub: your GitHub ID, username and the email address GitHub has verified.
- Sign-in codes we email you. We store them only in scrambled (hashed) form, and each works for 10 minutes.
- A session for each device you sign in on, stored only in hashed form. A session ends 90 days after you last used it, and an account keeps at most 10.
- Your servers: the servers you follow, the ones you joined through an invite link, and when you last read a server's news.
- Your Minecraft link, if you make one: your Minecraft player name and UUID, linked by typing a code on a Perland server. You can unlink it at any time.
- Your stats on servers that report them: the time you played and the achievements you earned on each server, sent by that server.
- Your free server, if you create one: its worlds and files, when it was last played, how much disk it uses, and a normalized form of your email address that stops one person from making several free servers. A free server nobody plays for 30 days is deleted, and we email you 7 days before. We keep a record of when free servers were created for 30 days.
- Your preferences and teams, if you also use Perland Panel.
- Apps with access: the other launchers and apps you allowed to sign you in with your Perland account, and when. If one of them created your account or your free server, we record which.
Like any online service, our servers keep short-lived logs of requests, which include IP addresses. We use them only to keep Perland running, secure and free of abuse.
Running a server on Perland
If you run servers with Perland Panel, we keep your team, its members and their roles, your servers with their files and settings, the last 200 console commands of each server, your backups, and an audit trail of what was done (kept for 180 days). Backups are stored encrypted with our storage provider. A deleted server's backups are removed 7 days after it is deleted.
What happens on your server, such as chat, player names in its logs and plugin data, is yours to look after. You decide what your server collects from its players, and you're responsible for telling them.
AI features. When you ask Perland to explain a config file or a server error, or to suggest a change, we send that file or the relevant log lines to Anthropic, which runs the AI model. We first replace the secret values we know about. Anthropic's commercial terms don't let it train its models on this data.
Discord. If you connect a Discord server, we keep its ID and name, the channels and rules you set up, and the Discord IDs of team members who link their account.
Errors we don't recognise yet. When a server fails in a way Perland can't explain yet, we keep a sample of its log lines for up to 90 days so we can teach Perland to recognise it. Samples can contain player names. Only Perland staff see them.
This website
- Waitlist. If you leave your email, we keep it with the list you joined and your language, with our mailing list provider, and write only about what you signed up for. Every email lets you unsubscribe.
- Fonts. This site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when your browser downloads them.
- This site sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics.
Why we use your data
- To give you what you asked for: signing you in, running your account and your servers.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping Perland secure, preventing abuse (such as the free-server limits), and finding and fixing problems.
- Your consent: the waitlist and the accounts you choose to link. You can withdraw it at any time.
- The law, when it requires us to keep or share something.
Who else sees it
- Companies that run Perland for us: hosting, backup storage, email delivery and the mailing list. They handle your data only on our instructions.
- Services you choose to connect: Microsoft, Discord and GitHub, under their own policies.
- Anthropic, for the AI features described above.
- Apps you allow. If you sign in to another launcher or app with your Perland account, it receives your Perland profile (your names and pictures from Discord and GitHub, and your Minecraft link), your servers and your free server, and your email only if you signed in with an email code for it. It handles them under its own privacy policy and our partner terms. You can remove an app's access at any time under Apps with access on your account in Perland Panel.
- Other players and server owners. On a Perland server, your player name and what you do in the game are visible to others, as on any Minecraft server. A server's owners see the stats their server reports.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising.
Where it's stored
Our servers and providers may be in countries other than yours. When we move data across borders, we protect it as the law requires, for example with the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while you have an account and delete it when you ask us to, except what the law requires us to keep. The other periods are listed above: sign-in codes 10 minutes, device sessions 90 days after their last use, free servers 30 days after they were last played, error samples 90 days, the audit trail 180 days, and a deleted server's backups 7 days.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we have about you, correct it, delete it, give it to you in a portable form, stop or limit how we use it, or withdraw a consent you gave. Write to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. To delete your Perland account, write to us from the email address you sign in with, or tell us your username.
If you think we've handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
You must be at least 13 to make a Perland account. If you're under the age at which the law where you live lets you agree to this policy yourself, a parent or guardian must agree for you. If we learn that we have an account of a child under 13, or of a child whose parent hasn't agreed where the law requires it, we delete it. Parents and guardians can contact us at [email protected].
Microsoft's family settings can also stop a child's Microsoft account from signing in to Minecraft. The launcher respects that and doesn't try to get around it.
Security
We store sign-in codes and session keys only in hashed form, encrypt stored secrets and backups, use HTTPS everywhere, and keep the launcher's tokens in your system's credential store. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Perland installed by others
Perland Engine and Perland Panel can be installed and run by other people. This policy covers Perland as run by us. An install run by someone else is the responsibility of whoever runs it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the launcher or by email before it takes effect.
